Ojcowski National Park & Castle in Pieskowa Skala

Ojcow is located in distance of 24 km to the northwest from Krakow (just 15-20 minutes drive), this National Park covers an area of 20 sq.km. The National Park includes the the Pradnik gorge.This deep limestone gorge of the Pradnik river has got a special microclimate and an amazing rich variety of plants and wildlife. The very attractive and diversified landscape offers an unforgettable view of picturesque river valley, twisted Jurassic rock formations, numerous caves, ,primeval forests and a very rich flora as well as the ruins of a medieval castle. The next stop of the trip is Pieskowa Skała with its preserved Renaissance Castle on a route along the scenic ”Eagles Nests Trail”. Pieskowa Skala Castle was first recorded in 1315 as a stone castle funded by King Kazimierz the Great and was extended in the XV century. It was turned into a stately Renaissance residence in the following century and fortified with new Italian style ramparts in the early XVII century. It has been a museum since 1966. Next to the castle, there is the huge rock – Jurassic attraction, called The Hercules’Club.
This park is a perfect area for a walking,cycling and rock climing. The best time to visit this park is the autumn because of the variety of rich colours on all sides.
