group programme - In the footsteps of Frederic Chopin

Frederic Chopin was born in Zelazowa Wola (near Warsaw, Poland) on March 1, 1810 (or on February 22, according to his baptismal certificate). He was born into a small family of a French father, Nicolas Chopin, and of a Polish mother, Tekla Justyna Krzyzanowska. Soon afterwards Chopin family moved to the capital. Young Frederic showed his great admiration for the piano at a very young age, and he composed two polonaises at the age of seven years. At the same time, he gave concert performances to impressed audiences. Young Chopin had a good education and later studied music privately with Joseph Elsner, founder and director of the Warsaw Conservatory. In 1826 Chopin became a full-time student at Elsner’s conservatory, where he received an excellent foundation in theory, harmony, and melody. That time he was greatly influenced by the folk music of Mazovian region. Chopin’s last performance in Warsaw has taken place in October 1830. One month later he left Warsaw forever and moved to Paris where he continued his life and work until his death in year 1849.
